I am Bethany Hughes.
A Play Therapist based in Worthing.

I have worked with children and families for 12 years in different roles. I am a mobile therapist, I see children in their school or in centres across West Sussex.

I tailor sessions to meet a child's needs, I offer weekly 40 minutes sessions in schools or other centres.
I work creatively with puppets, sand, clay, art,
movement and storytelling
to offer children a safe space to express themselves.
I work with children aged between 3-14.
Sessions are held during term time, at the same time each week, in the same room. An important part of therapy is holding regular check ins with parents and teachers to ensure that I'm aware of how therapy might be impacting child home and school life.

A child might have been referred to Play Therapy because they have been through something difficult or because the team around them are worried for their emotional well-being. Children show us in their behaviour if something is wrong as they might not have the words to describe it. Therefore, using play is a way to communicate with a child in their language.
I have experience of working with children who have been through a bereavement, have difficulty regulating their emotions, are at risk of being expelled, are going through parental separation, have experienced trauma, are struggling with friendships or are showing signs of anxiety.
I am happy to talk through any of your concerns to better understand if Play Therapy is the right choice or if another local service might be more specifically what you might need.
